Bereavement Notices

To All the bereaved familes: My sincere condolences to all who has lost loved ones> I've listed only the people who've gone-on since we began our joint Family Reunions, 1999 when I began tracking for our website. And I want to apologize for taking so long to update recent homegoing information. I have been very busy with other writing and things that have cropped up in my schedule.

I know that grieving the loss of our loved ones doesn't stop after the homegoing services and burials. Grief attaches itself to our very being and affects how we feel for a long while, sometimes a very long while. So I hope each family member has the benefit of a close support group where you can talk and cry and let your feeling run their course, rather than trying to force a "all is well" outward appearance.

Also, I if I could get copies of the homegoing programs, I could update sketchy entries where I don't know names and dates of each family. Or, you could enter the info in the website guest comments, and I'll get it that way. Thank you, and may God continue to show you his mercy and loving-kindness.

Howard (Howard Rhem)

The Rhem family is grieving the loss of another family member. Howard Rhem of Temple Texas went to his rest in early 2011--unsure of exact date. Our prayers are with his wife Helen, his children, his sister May Blevins of Dallas Texas, nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters- in-law, and brothers-in-law. May God comfort your aching hearts.

Condolences ( Sam, ?? to August 1, 2010)

The Allen family of San Antonio Texas lost their son and brother on August 1, 2010. Sam died from a heart attach at the young age of 47 years old. Sam was the youngest son of Ella and her husband,(?) and the youngest brother to Ella and Gwen, and other siblings whose names I don't know. Our hearts and prayes go out to the family. May God strengthen you and give you peace to know that Sam is in a better place.

Lois (Lois Jean Newton
May 19, 1932 to April 16, 2010)

The Newton and Haynes families lost another of their loved ones on April 16, 2010. Lois Jean ("Beb" as she was called) Beaty Newton of Lawton Okla no longer resides there. She has gone to await her reward. Lois Jean was the daughter of James Beaty and Sedelia Haynes Beaty, both deceased. She is also preceded in death by her husband, James; one son, James Larry Newton, and a grandson, Juan "TJ" Bumpass.

Lois Jean leaves behind a son and wife--Dennis M. and Carolyn Newton, six daughters: Denise Sublett; Sedelia Bumpass and husband Johnnie; Glenda Gonzalez and husband Tony; Tina Fuller; Kathy Newton; Carolyn Solomon and husband Dennis, daughters-in-law Marion Newton, and Creshonda Newton; 13 grandchildren, and 8 great-grands.

Our prayers go out to you in the passing of your loved one. May God receive her home and grant her a hearty 'Well Done.' And may God continue to wrap His loving arms around you as you grieve your loss.

Cousin (Cousin Frankie 1909 to April 2010 )

Cousin Frankie Malone Shaw went to her rest on Good Friday, April 2010. Frankie, a long- time resident of Dallas Texas was 100 years old. She leaves a daughter, Laura Gipson, also of Dallas, and I'm not certain of grandchildren. But there are many many nieces, nephews, and cousins who are sending condolences to her family. I wish I had visited her and learned more of our family history. I'm sure she had lots of stories.

Frankie was the niece of Haynes matriarchs, Grandma Lucinda Goff Haynes, and Great Aunt Evie Goff Haynes.

Aaron(Aaron Stephens Jr.
Feb 18, 1943 to Apr 7, 2010)

The Stevens family of Corpus Christi Texas said goodbye to Aaron Stevens Jr on April 7, 2010. Aaron died after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his parents (Aaron Stevens, Sr. and Prudence Collins) and two children, (Kermit and Felicia Stevens). I don't remember ever meeting my cousin, but Jonnie Crayton Fisher remembers his demanding voice and his way of saying 'you're right but still I wouldn't have done it that way.' She says that she and Aaron were Grandma Josie's favorites. It's good to hear that Grandma Josie had a mellow side, (Smiles).

Our prayers go out to Juanita, his sisters Yvonne and Carol, and to all who knew him best. Of course all of us cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and in-laws are praying for God's continued love and comfort for the immediate family.

(Bertha Mae Williams,
Jul 8, 1940 to Feb 21, 2010)

Bertha Mae Collins Williams left this earth for a better home on February 21, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was preceded in death by both her mother and father Mariah Malone Collins (sister of Frankie Malone Shaw) and Eura Collins (son of Rollin Collins and Josephine Fisher Collins). She leaves a son (Robert Charles Williams) and his wife Leticia; three grandchildren: Anthony Lashawn, Bryan Michael, and Monica Michelle; five great grands: Jazmine, De'Andre, Sidney, Briana, and Antonia. Many, many cousins and friends are sending condolences and prayers for Bertha's close family. May God keep you in his watchful care.

(Lee Haynes Jr, 05/06/1938 to 09/12/2009)

V. Lee Haynes, Jr. of Corpus Christi lost his battle with cancer Saturday evening on September 12, 2009. Lee Jr had had a heart condition since 2005. This year in 2009, he developed cancer that was incurable, and so he said his good-byes to his wife, Viola of nine years, his sisters Viola Haynes Peterson and Pearl Haynes Phillips, and his daughters Bonnie Haynes and Sharon Haynes Larmond; slipping away to join his father, Velva Lee Haynes Sr; mother, Ressie Lee Collins Haynes; daughter, Michelle Haynes Howard; sister, Mary Ella Haynes Harmon; and others who preceded him in death.

He leaves behind many other family in cousins, nieces and nephews. There may still be uncles and aunts living on the Fisher and Collins side of the family, but they are not known to the family. I did meet Great-great Uncle Otto Fisher, grandmother Josephine’s uncle at the 2005 Rockdale reunion. He is the only one that I know of.

I pray that the peace that you know through Jesus Christ will comfort your hearts and help you through the sad and grievous times. And that the time will hurry when you can think of things about Lee Jr that make you laugh, and the things he loved and contributed to you as a family.

On behalf of our families, T. J. Haynes Johnson

(Devorah Haynes Lamar, 2/08/1914 to 8/15/2009)

Auntie Devorah bid her family good-bye on Saturday morning of August 15, 2009, about 9:30 in the morning. She was 95 years old and had lived a good life. She was the last of the Haynes siblings on my father’s side of the family. Auntie Dee had lived in Amarillo Texas since 1944, and she was a faithful servant member of Mt Zion Baptist Church for 65 years.

We lost more than an aunt, we lost the family historian. She gave me most of the family background and Haynes photographs that you see on the family website and in the Family Tree book. She has done her part, now it’s our job to make sure we connect with unknown members of our family and pass on our heritage. God Bless Aunt Dee’s family that she left behind; they are: Donald Ray Lamar I and Patricia Yvonne Lamar Davenport; daughter-in-law Delphine, grandsons Donald Ray Lamar II (Ray); Dale Anthony Lamar, and Derrick H. Lamar; granddaughters Donna Lamar and Roshanda Davenport Tinnin; greatgrands Triston and Allysa Tinnin, Dierra, Diasia & Mia Lamar, and Labrina and James Adams.

Her husband Ralph Lamar and grandson Lambert Adams preceded her to heaven. We pray that the family finds the special peace, love, and comfort that only God can give.

On behalf of all our families, TJ Haynes Johnson

(Adell Haynes Madden, 2/26/1923 to 4/21/2007)

Eddie Madden lost his beloved Adell in April. They had been married 50 plus years. Several brothers and sisters already deceased were: Solomon Haynes, Gilbert Haynes, Richard Haynes, Fred Jones Jr, Sedelia Haynes-Beaty, Charlie Mae Haynes-Grady, & Laura Haynes-Grant. Survivors are Husband, Eddie Madden, adopted daughters Barbara Phillips and Marie Posey; stepson Larry D. Madden, step daughter Wilbur Kaye Madden, grands & great grands: Eric Madden, Patrice Smith, Eric Madden Jr., & Kalen Smith.

The Goff-Haynes family lost their beloved sister, aunt, cousin, surrogate mom, and friend. We offer our love and condolences to Uncle/cousin/brother-in-law/friend Eddie Madden. He was at the '07 Oklahoma reunion, and it was very good to see him.

May God comfort your heart, and give you peace.

Cousin Rufus Goff passed within a couple of weeks of Adell Haynes Madden. Cousin Rufus was the brother of Porter Goff, nephew of Lucinda Goff Haynes. As soon I as recieve the home-going program from Ella B. or Lola Goff, I will add other family as they relate to Cousin Rufus.

I pray that God will ease your grief and remind you of good memories. Love and condolences from the Collins-Haynes-Fisher-Goff families.

Velva Velva Lee Haynes, Sr. 11/4/1909 to 02/22/2006)

He leaves behind a son, Lee Haynes, Jr, two daughters Pearl Haynes Phillips, and Viola Haynes Peterson; grandchildren, neices, and nephews, and a sister, Deborah Haynes Lamar of Amarillo, Texas. I am so glad that I had several chances to visit with Uncle Cap at the family reunion last year in Rockdale, and in 1999 in San Antonio. It was wonderful to see and honor him, along with our other senior uncles and aunts. Uncle Cap, as we've called him since I can remember, was 96 years old. He loved the Lord, he attended church, and now he has gone home to claim his rewards. May God wipe away the tears, and turn sad thoughts to joy and thankfulness for Uncle Cap's long, and blessed life with us. Love to the family, tjjohnson and families
